DNA replication results in two new DNA molecules/
Each of these new molecules:
a. has one strand of nucleotides from the parent DNA and one newly synthesized strand of nucleotides.
b. has two strands of nucleotides from the parent.
c. has two newly synthesized strands of nucleotides.
d. has a single strand of nucleotides.
e. are incomplete copies of the original.
The result of DNA replication is two DNA molecules consisting of one new and one old chain of nucleotides. This is why DNA replication is described as semi-conservative, half of the chain is part of the original DNA molecule, and half is brand new.
Before a cell divides, it needs to replicate its entire DNA to be able to give an exact copy to each daughter cell. This replication of DNA is an enzymatic synthesis, in which the double-helix is copied in a semiconservative fashion.
