What Is One Third Plus One Third?
One-third plus one-third equal two-thirds.
When you are adding fractions, the denominators must be the same. In this problem, 1/3 plus 1/3, the denominators are the same already, so you don’t need to do anything with them.
Once the denominators are the same, you then add the numerators together. In this problem, one plus one equals two. The two become the numerator of your answer. The denominator of your answer remains 3.
So, 1/3 + 1/3 = 2/3, or one-third plus one-third equals two-thirds.
Adding Fractions
Fractions are one way of representing parts of a whole. The numerator is the top number of the fraction and the denominator is the bottom number.
